Start with the objective

An equity fund, a debt fund and a mixed-asset fund have different exposures. The scheme documents explain the objective, eligible assets and principal risks.

Holdings and overlap

Several funds can own many of the same shares. Counting fund names is not enough to understand diversification. Compare the underlying holdings and their weights.

Costs and time horizon

Expense ratios, exit charges where applicable and taxes can affect the result. Returns shown for a previous period do not establish what the next period will deliver.

For cross-border readers

Residence, account eligibility and tax treatment vary. For an individual decision, check the current fund documents and obtain qualified advice for the countries involved. This note does not set out NRI tax or eligibility rules.
